This paper presents a method to control the vibration of an arch system. The arch system consists of a clamped arch with piezoelectric actuators. At first, this study presents the analysis of the vibration problem caused by periodic excitation. The problem is solved by means of the transfer matrix and modal expansion methods. Next, with application of H∞ control theory to the arch system, a numerical simulation of and experiments on vibration control are performed with a piezoelectric actuator. The result shows the effectiveness of this control method for the decrease in forced vibration of the arch system.
