Journal bearings for rotary compressors have flexible structure at the bearing end because of the journal tilt. EHL (Elastohydrodynamic lubrication) analysis under dynamic loading has been done in order to investigate the effect of the flexible structure. In this analysis, the variations of journal tilt and the bearing load during one cycle, obtained by nonlinear analysis of rotor-bearing system, were used as the analysis condition. Reynolds equation is solved by the finite difference method, and the bearing deformation is calculated using FEM models constructed by three dimensional iso parametric element. By compared with the analysis results for the bearings with and without the flexible structure, it is shown that the minimum film thickness is increased by the action of the flexible structure.
