This paper proposes a relationship between the response of a forced vibration system having 6-degrees of freedom and its excitation caused by the shaking force and the shaking moment of 4-bar linkages. The paper also presents an optimum balancing method which uses the compromise values of the responses as an objective function. The effects of the exciting force frequency on the system responses predicted by using the new balancing method are compared to those obtained with a conventional method. Results show that the shaking force calculated with the new method is larger than that with the conventional method, whereas the shaking moments are almost same. However, the vibration response of the system predicted with the new approach is smaller than that with the conventional method. It is also shown that the balancing results change with the exciting force frequency, and the best result is achieved when the exciting force frequency is about the same as the natural frequency of the system.
