The Takane bara, also known as Takane ibara, is a wild rose endemic to
Japan, found on high mountain crags at altitudes of up to 2000 metres. Its
scientific name is Rosa nipponensis Crép., which was given by the Belgian
botanist Crépin in 1875. There are 16 species of wild roses in Japan, the
best known of which are R. multiflora Thunb., the Noibara, and R. rugosa
Thunb., the Hamanasu.
