In 1999, Tospovirus occurred in dahlia, chrysanthemum, and tomato plants in Akita Prefecture, Japan. The virus was identified as Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) by sap inoculation test and serological and genetical assays. This report is the first on the occurrence of TSWV in Akita Prefecture.
