Abstract
Paper chromatography of phosphagen is greatly affected by the degree of purification of the filter paper used and/or by the presence of other substances in the sample and the Rf value obtained is not always constant. It is necessary, therefore, to establish fundamental conditions in the detection of phosphagen that (1) the base does not color in the combined form and (2) the two components formed by hydrolysis or decomposition appear in identical positions on the paper chromatogram.
