Atomic force microscopy is a powerful tool to study materials in a molecular level. However, observations of soft polymeric materials in a high resolution are still challenging. We review recent achievements in observations of polymer chains at a resolution close to, or better than 1 nm by using well-defined two-dimensional films. The observations include the molecular structure of poly(methyl methacrylate) stereocomplex and detailed helical structures of synthetic helical polymers.
