Abstract
MacLang4.5 is an easy-to-use authoring system that allows language teachers inexperienced in computer use to create a variety of computer-assisted language learning (CALL) exercises on a Macintoshcomputer. The MacLang authoring system can also produce extremely user-friendly coursewares for students. Using six different format possibilities, vocabulary, fill in blanks, paragraph, multiple choice, jumble and multi-format, linguistic activities specifically tailored to students' needs can be prepared using English and one more language. This paper discusses some advantages in using the authoring tool such as: (1) Students receive immediate feedback, and ther mistakes and scores are stored. (2) Interactive exercises may be created in which incorrect answers are anticipated. (3) The system includes many options to cope with more than one group of students with various levels.
