In order to research the components of pupa's stink, the Silk-worm pupa was distillated by steam, and the acidic, basic, and neutral fractions was fractionated.
Formic acid, propionic acid, and p-cresol was isolated from the acidic fraction, and trimethylamine and n-butylamine from the basic fraction, and n-butylaldehyde, n-butylalcohol, sec-butylalcohol, and hydrocarbons from the neutral fraction.
