Abstract
Adsorbent containing cyclodextrins (CD) have been produced by using the inclusion. CD applied to adsorbent can be insoluble in water. Water-insoluble copolymers of CD and cellulose bridged with epichlorohydrin (EP) as crosslinking agent were synthesized in aqueous NaOH solutions. We synthesized the copolymer in various conditions, and the function as adsorbent was evaluated by investigating the adsorption effect for methyl orange on copolymer. The adsorption effect was increased with increasing the EP content. We found that the CD level contained in the copolymers was correlated with the amount of the EP added. On the other hand, the yield of copolymer was independent of the EP content. When the copolymer was synthesized in an aqueous NaOH solution of 40%, the yield and adsorption effect have maximums and these were constants regardless of the decreased quantity of NaOH solution. Because the copolymer of CD and cellulose bridged with EP was insoluble in water and organic solvents, the obtained copolymer may be useful as an adsorbent.
