Abstract
This highlight represents recent developments in polymer analogous reactions, which were realized via tailoring organic transformation reactions. The organo-activation technique successfully enabled post-polymerization modification reactions of stable polymeric esters with amines. In addition, design and synthesis of activated esters enable new functionalities for post-polymerization modification reactions, which included stimuli-triggered reactivity changes and sequence specific installation of functional units. The Mitsunobu reaction was also successfully integrated into post-polymerization modification reactions, essentially enabling sequential post-polymerization modification and a facile synthetic route to polyamine scaffolds. All in all, post-polymerization modifications based on multicomponent reactions (MCRs) such as the Kabachnik-Fields reaction allowed concurrent installation of two or more functionalities on a single monomeric unit within polymeric structures.
