Abstract
2-Amino-4- (m-aminoanilino) -6-isopropenyl-1, 3, 5-triazine [1] was obtained by the reaction of m-aminophenylbiguanide with methyl methacrylate or by the reduction of 2-amino-4- (m-nitroanilino) -6-isopropenyl-1, 3, 5-triazine using both iron powder and ferrous sulfate. 2-Amino-4-isopropenyl-6- (m-benzamidoanilino) -, [m- (3-phenylureido) anilino] -and [m- (3-phenylthioureido) anilino] -1, 3, 5-triazines were obtained by the reaction of [1] with benzoyl chloride, phenyl isocyanate and phenyl isothiocyanate, respectively. Copolymerization of these monomers (M2) with styrene (M1) was carried out in dimethyl sulfoxide at 60°Cusing azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator. The copolymerization parameters (r1, r2, Q and e) were determined for these monomers. It was found that the effect of m-substituent on 1/r1 followed the Hammett's equation to give p value of+0.11.
