Abstract

The formations of the dispersed phase and the polymer grafted between two phases were studied in the case of poly (oxy-2, 6-dimethy1-1, 4-phenylene) (PPE) and polyamide 6 (PA6) polymer alloy. The compatibilizer used was the grafted polymer which is synthesized by reacting maleic anhydride (MAH) with two polymers in a extruder. The amount of the grafted polymer increased with decreasing of the molecular weight of PPE. The particle diameter of PPE was, however, not dependent on the molecular weight of PPE. The grafted polymer, which occupies a very small area, is stretched and accumulated between the polymers. The depth of the grafted polymer on the surface of the dispersed particles is observed to be about 40 nm.
