Abstract

The formations of the dispersed phase and the grafted polymer between two phases were studied in the case of poly (oxy-2, 6-dimethyl-1, 4-phenylene) (PPE) and polyamide 6 (PA6) polymer alloy. The compatibilizer used was the grafted polymer which is synthesized by reacting maleic anhydride (MAH) with two polymers in a extruder. The diameter of the dispersed phase depends on the molecular weight of PPE and the depth of the interface between two polymers is 40 nm. This value does not depend on the diameter. The Izod strength was 60-80 kg·cm/cm in the case that the diameter was small enough and the concentration of grafted polymer at the interface was high. The mechanisms of impact strength and micro structure of the alloy are discussed.
