Abstract
Polymerization behavior of mono-and dibromostyrenes (mixtures of positonal isomers) was investigated. The differences in the polymerization rates for positional isomers were measured by HPLC. The polymerization rates for monobromostyrene were found to be in the following order: o->m->p-. The order of polymerization rates for dibromostyrene was as follows: 2, 5->2, 4- (+2, 3-) >3, 4-. Copolymerization of brominated styrenes (M1) with styrene (M2) were performed in toluene at 60°C, and the monomer reactivity ratios and Q-e values for brominated styrenes were determined.
