Abstract
Molecular processes in large deformation of an amorphous polymer were investigated by molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. A linear chain of 512 spherical methylene groups was generated in the MD cell. The cell was uniaxially stretched by using the constant tension MD method. During the deformation, we observed the void growth, the fiber formation, and the chain scission. We found that most of scissions take place near the boundary region between the amorphous and fiber regions. It also turned out that the strain of amorphous region is relaxed by the chain scissions with a consequent acceleration of the void growth.
