Preparation of superabsorbent hydrogels were carried out from six kinds of poly (amic acids) with the crosslinking reaction of hexamethylene diisocyanate, followed by NaOH neutralization. The lengths of the polymer chains of the poly (amic acids) were estimated by solution viscometry. Water absorbency and biodegradability were evaluated, and these results were correlated with the solution viscosity and molecular structure of the poly (amic acids). In general, the smaller the repeated unit of the poly (amic acid) was, the better the water absorbency and biodegradability were.
