Abstract
Mucosal glycoprotein, possessing a fucomucan-type carbohydrate composition, was isolated from swine stomach lining powder. It was found to possess the organ specificity as well as the species specificity, in addition to the blood-group activity. Such an antigenicity was not influenced by the treatment with various glycosidases (blood-group destroying enzymes). The alkaline borohydride treatment of the glycoprotein resulted a partial loss of the antigenicity when only the serine-carbo-hydrate linkages were cleavaged, but a complete loss when the threonine-carbo-hydrate linkages were cleavaged. On the basis of these experiments, the antigenic determinant was assumed to reside in the core protein including the carbohydrate linkage (threonine-galactosamine linkage) within the glycoprotein molecule.
