The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of "problem-solving study" by using a working model of lunar phases, which was developed in this study. The effects of this problem-solving study were evaluated by a questionnaire measuring the students' understanding of lunar phase before and after the practice. The questionnaire's findings are as follows: •Students tended to see the positional relationship between the sun and the moon as the angular distance by using this model. •Students retained for three months the scientific concept of lunar phase acquired by this teaching strategy.
