Open surgery for laryngeal cancer has been developed to achieve both oncological control and preservation of the laryngeal function. While transoral approaches have become more prevalent in recent years, it remains essential to maintain the capacity to perform open procedures such as partial laryngectomy for appropriate cases. Vertical laryngectomy and horizontal partial laryngectomy offer promising surgical techniques, as meticulous planning of resection lines and suturing techniques can contribute to an improved postoperative quality of life. Open partial laryngectomy remains an effective technique providing tailored treatment based on individual patient background factors, including age and comorbidities.
