A railway passenger ship were converted to an ordinary passenger ship in our shipyard. The sea trials before the conversion were carried out and it was revealed that vibration induced by high frequency exciting force of propeller were excessive, especially in the stern part. Therefore, many countermeasures were studied and effective ones were adopted after simulating their effects by relative simple design methods. Finaly, vibration and noise level were achieved to an allowable level as passenger ship. This paper shows a practical example to succeed to reduce vibration and noise in a converted ship.
