Abstract

The Noboa government took office on November 24th, 2023. His term might be short, lasting only 18 months, as the next presidential election is held on February 9, 2025. In order to be re-elected, President Noboa must quickly restore Ecuador, which is in the midst of a security crisis caused by an intensifying war with drug cartels. On the domestic front, the feud with Vice President Abad has become a new flashpoint, hampering the administration, and on the diplomatic front, the police force was made to raid the Mexican embassy and took former Vice President Glas into custody, drawing harsh criticism from the international community. The road to re-election will not be smooth as President Noboa continues to walk a tightrope in his administration.
