Abstract
A striking abnormal form of Catocala patala FELDER was illustrated here and compared with the typical one. It matches fairly well the specimen named ab. usuiensis SUGITANI (Akitu, 2: pi. 1, 1939) and is therefore the second example of this form found in Japan. On upper surface it has the median blackish band of the hindwing completely lost, remaining some amount of blackish scales on the vein 2, but on under surface this feature occurs parallelly to the forewing, in which instead of normal median band a dark speck on costa and a minute dark point at the upper angle of cell are marked. Normal in colour and in size of wings. ♂, Tokyo, 7. viii. 1958(S. SUZUKI). In the collection of the author.
