Abstract
Seventeen eggs were obtained from a Papilio xuthus female, which was hand-paired with P. maackii male on September 7, 1962. One of these eggs started to develop and hatched. This larva grew by a usual developmental rate and reached its 5th instar stage on September 26. The larva stoped to feed probably at the end of this stage, but did not become prepupa, and died after two months 5th instar stage. It is presumed that this larva did not have an ability to pupate. Phellodendron amurense was used as its larval food. The hybrid larva was intermediate between the parental species from its 1 st to 4th instar. The 5th instar larva resembled maackii very closely, although xuthus characters were seen in a few points.
