The new species described below was only recently discovered in Kumamoto Prefecture of Kyushu by a joint survey of Mr. K. YOSHIZAKI and the junior author. This quite unexpected discovery increases the number of species of Orthosia occurring in Japan to as many as twenty, showing the richness of this genus in the temperate forest.
