Abstract
Intra-species variation in Thymelicus lineola was investigated using gene analysis. Conjunction of mitochondrial genes encoding 16s rRNA and NADH dehydrogenase subunit 1 (ND1) revealed variation in a region-dependent manner, and two major groups were found. One is a group consisting of individuals distributed in the Far East, and another is a group made up of those distributed in Europe and North America. Individuals recently found in Hokkaido, Japan were regarded as members of the latter group. We discussed the origin of Hokkaido's T. lineola using these molecular data and statistical data on importation of grass, host plants of T. lineola.
