The generic position of Smerinthus decoratus Moore, 1872 is discussed. Most recently, the species has been included in Marumba Moore, a position that is no longer tenable in the light of new material and further investigation of its adult morphology. A new genus, Morwennius, is therefore erected for S. decoratus.
