A taxonomic revision of the genus Conogethes (Lepidoptera, Crambidae) in Thailand

Abstract

A total of seven species of the genus Conogethes Guenée, 1854 is confirmed to occur in Thailand based on specimens preserved in Thailand and Japan. Conogethes tenuialalis sp. nov. is described, and two species, C. parvipunctalis Inoue & Yamanaka and C. haemactalis Snellen, are newly recorded from Thailand. Along with a revised diagnosis of the genus (Inoue and Yamanaka, 2006), keys to the species on external characters, male genitalia and female genitalia are given. After comparison of diagnostic characters of seven species of this genus in Thailand, we propose to designate the following three species groups: C. punctiferalis species-group (C. punctiferalis, C. parvipunctalis, C. pinicolalis, C. pluto), C. evaxalis species-group (C. evaxalis) and C. haemactalis species-group (C. haemactalis and C. tenuialalis sp. nov.).
