Previous to this study the type locality of Fabriciana taigetana Reuss, 1922 was assumed to be Hakodate, Japan as suggested by Kudrna (1978). Recently, Tadokoro (2023) stated that the butterfly described as Fabriciana taigetana was in fact the Japanese Yama fritillary. On the contrary the evidence presented in the present study shows that F. taigetana, likely belongs to the European F. adippe group, and Greece, the original type locality, is correct. The history of F. taigetana is explained by discussing the factors and background behind mistakes in its designation. Argynnis nagiae is still the correct name for the Japanese Yama fritillary.
