Abstract
The valuable characteristics of fiber optic distributed sensors, which are a unique technology with attractive applications, include the following: long-distance measurement capability, explosion-proof, corrosion-resistance, maintenance-free, light-weight, and excellent durability. Distributed temperature and distributed strain sensors were successfully developed using physical phenomenon in optical fi bers and have been applied to many areas. In this paper, we review the latest technology trends and applications, especially in manufacturing plants and the energy fields, using distributed sensing technologies based on an optical time domain technique.
