A method for optical processing to estimate gradients is proposed. This method is based on phase
modulation of optical signals and optical Fourier transform. The procedure of the method is quite
similar to that with a quantum algorithm. One of the advantageous features of the proposed method is
suitability for simple implementation. Also, this method can be extended to gradient descent. The
extended method is explained and verified by numerical analysis.
