Details

Catalysts are key materials for the realization of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and carbon neutrality, and in recent years, replacing noble metals such as Pt and Pd in heterogeneous catalysts by low-cost substitutes has become more and more important in scientific and industrial researches, and an interdisciplinary research between catalysis and metallurgy is strongly desired. However, very few researches on catalytic materials have been performed from the view point of metallurgy so far. In FY 2017–2022, a research project No. 78 “Metallurgy for Advanced Catalytic Materials” was carried out with a financial support by The Japan Institute of Metals and Materials (JIMM). The aim of this special issue is to publish not only research outcomes of this project but also the precious pioneer researches in the multidisciplinary field related to both catalysis and metallurgy. We sincerely hope that the contents of this special issue will attract the attention of metallurgists, chemists and/or physicists in materials science fields.

In this issue “Metallurgy for Advanced Catalytic Materials”, a number of specialized studies in the field of metallurgy for advanced catalytic materials have been collected for the first time. This issue contains 4 review articles and 7 original papers, covering the new challenge of metallurgical design & preparation for metal and/or alloy catalysts. All papers are contributed by excellent scientists with various expertise.
