In order to investigate the cause of annealing brittleness of nickel, electrolytic nickel was melted, and then carbon and oxygen were added to the molten metal respectively. Both samples were forged after casting, and subjected to precipitation treatment after solution treatment. Tensile properties of samples were measured. The results are as follows:
(1) Both carbon and oxygen cause the annealing brittleness of nickel.
(2) The cause of annealing brittleness of nickel annealed at 600∼800°C is the precipitation of oxygen or carbon contained in the nickel.
