Abstract

Fe–C–Mn alloy castings were hot-rolled in the directions parallel and normal to the growth direction of cementite in the castings. The orientation of cementite in the hot-rolled specimens was examined by X-ray diffraction and it was found that the c-axis faced the rolling surface and the b-axis showed a tendency to keep the orientation in the casting before rolling. The Elinvar property was observed at temperatures up to the Curie temperature of cementite in Fe-3.5%C-1%Mn alloy hot-rolled on the plane parallel to the growth direction of cementite and in the direction normal to it.
