Abstract
Oxygen–permeable membranes with mixed ionic–electronic conducting can separate oxygen from air in 100% selectivity, theoretically. Combining the reaction and separation in an oxygen–permeable membrane enables a low– cost, energy–saving and simple process for chemical reaction. This review describes the developments of mixed ionic–electric conducting oxygen–permeable membranes and the membrane reactors for partial oxidation of methane to produce synthesis gas. In addition, water splitting and CO2 thermal decomposition are also presented.
