Abstract
There are still many problems to be solved in the hemodialyzer even it is widely used for the treatment of uremic patients. We have been studying how to improve the dialyzer performances, solute dialysis rate, ultrafiltration rate, blood and dialysate pressure drops etc.It was pointed out that geometry of fluids affects the performance very much.Effect of mesh as a spacer in hemodialyzer on the performance is to be reported in this paper.Size and number of mesh filament, direction of blood flow are altered and it is found that double mesh improves the performance very much.Furthermore blood pressure drop of blood path is minimized in this case.Direction of blood flow should be cross to mesh filaments to get better results.A test coil dialyzer formulated with double mesh and 0.6m2 cuprophane shows same function as 0.8m2 single mesh coil dialyzer. This coil does not need to use blood pump and can also connect to a dialysate supplier for Kiil dialyzer.
