The larval habitats of tabanids were surveyed in Amami-oshima Islands in 1971,1976 and 1982. In total, 6 species belonging to 4 genera were collected. The larvae of Tabanus taiwanus were most frequently collected in ill-draine paddy fields, but those of T. takasagoensis were collected less frequently. The larvea of Silvius oshimaensis, Atylotus sawadai and Hirosia amamiensis inhabited in soils of citrus orchards, tidelands, and wet mosses grown around waterfalls, respectively.
