The distribution of Coproica rufifrons Hayashi, which is closely related to Coproica hirtula (Rondani), is studied based on the specimens from the Australasian and Oceanian regions preserved in the Bernice P. Bishop Museum, Hawaii. C. hirtula was formerly regarded as a cosmopolitan species, but I could not find it among these specimens. On the other hand, C. rufifrons is widespread in these regions. The records of C. hirtula in Micronesia by Richards (1963) were misidentified, and they were all rectified to C. rufifrons.
