We registered DNA barcode data for 64 sarcophagid species (202 specimens) with the DNA Data Bank of Japan. These data include taxa endemic to Japan, taxa distributed across East Asia, and cosmopolitans, offering valuable insights into genetic diversity at both the individual and geographical levels. A maximum-likelihood phylogenetic tree was constructed using the dataset along with reference sequences from GenBank. Most species form distinct clades, clearly independent of their closest relatives, supporting the utility of DNA barcoding as a tool for species identification. However, a few species—such as Parasarcophaga similis—did not form distinct clades, suggesting the possibility of misidentification when relying solely on barcode data.
