The hydration of 1-butene over proton-exchanged zeolites with various SiO_2/Al_2O_3 molar ratio has been studied. The conversion of 1-butene, the yield of 2-butanol, cis-2-butene, and trans-2-butene of products were increased with increment of SiO_2/Al_2O_3 molar ratio, which indicate decrement of hydrophobicity. Next the effect of the flow rate of water vapor to catalytic activity has been studied with proton-exchanged ultrastable Y-type zeolite (H-USY), which product ethyl methyl ketone (EMK). 2-Butanol and EMK were affected by the flow rare of water, but isomerization products were affected slightly. The different of their reactivity suggest that the active sites on the H-USY would be three species.
