Abstract
The Okita shell midden of the Jomon period is located along the Okita River in Nobeoka City, Miyazaki Prefecture.In this study, along with shellfish and animal bones excavated from the Okita shell midden, radiocarbon dating was conducted on shellfish collected from the adjacent Yokotani site. Based on these data and previous studies, the period during which the Okita River and the Nobeoka City area continued to be an inner bay environment was discussed.
