Abstract
Acid-extracted polyamine fractions from the fruit bodies of 72 mushroom species belonging to Ascomycota or Bacidiomycota were analyzed by HPLC, GC and GC-MS. An aromatic amine, 2-phenylethylamine (β-phenethylamine), was detected in four species: Abortiporus biennis, Amanita vaginata, Hygrocybe ovina and Volvariella volvacea. This is the first report on the cellular occurrence of 2-phenylethylamine in mushrooms. Distribution of homospermidine and canavalmine within the genera Auricularia and Boletus and widespread occurrence of agmatine and cadaverine in various genera were confirmed.
