Abstract
The amount of illudin S in Omphalotus guepiniformis fruiting bodies collected from nature and cultivated using a stocked strain from NBRC was measured. In the case of the wild O. guepiniformis fruiting body, differences found in the content of illudin S depended on the place and time of collection. Moreover, a fruiting body that did not contain illudin S suggested that production of secondary metabolites, such as illudin S, is greatly influenced by the growth environment in nature. Illudin S has been stably detected from fruiting bodies cultivated in the laboratory. Moreover, when the mycelium was cultivated in liquid medium, illudin S was secreted in the broth. Illudin S was not detected in sawdust culture medium after fruiting bodies were harvested. Based on these results, illudin S was not produced in the fruiting body, but in the mycelium. Also, illudin S was absorbed with water in an O. guepiniformis fruiting body during development.
