Buddhists regard “disease” as one of the four sufferings sentient
beings cannot avoid, and they have continually confronted it. In this
paper, we will consider cases dealing with disease in the Sarvāstivādin's Za aham jing, examining the teachings presented to patients therein. Furthermore, we will look for the differences in the sutra's
teachings for a sick layperson and a sick renunciate.
