The cornerstone of every court is having the “trust of the nation's people”. In this article, we studied the advisories and greetings of the chief justice of the Supreme Court recorded in the Saibansho-jiho to make this evident. Specifically, we looked into how many times the chief justice of the Supreme Court used the word “trust” in each article. We then looked at the context in which the word was used by the chief justice for each article which had a high frequency of the word.
We found that the word “trust” was used many times in context in articles concerned with acceleration of lawsuits, overcoming the Judiciary danger, eliminating the frequent occurrence of misconduct, and correspondence to the reform of the judicial system. What this means is that each time the court is faced with danger and reform, the Supreme Court pleaded for the “trust of the nation's people” in an effort to negotiate a solution. The thing we must be careful of is that this “trust” is a convenient black box for the Supreme Court.
