Skulls and otoliths (lapilli) of eleven ariid species (Genera Arius and Osteogeneiosus) from Malaysia (the South China Sea and the Straits of Malacca) were systematically described. In addition，one species from the waters of Taiwan and of Chushan archipelago (the East China Sea) was described to compare with the species from Malaysia.
