Quantitative data about fish fauna for set net operations have been acquired from some water areas, but insufficient from marine areas. An attempt was made to collect semi-quantitative data in collaboration with set net operations in the northen area of Sagami Bay.
The author’s grasp participated in a total of 76 set net operations from April 2000 to November 2004. Fish species and total catch counts were recorded during most operations.
As a result, over 192 fish species, five jellyfish species, 15 cephalopod species, six crustacean species, one sea turtle and one whale were recorded. By conducting surveys concurrently with set net operations, semi-quantitative data may be obtained with little effort, but the credibility of such data should be carefully evaluated. The data from this area indicated that various fish species, for example, surface-swimming fish and deep-sea fish, migrate to the waters off Enoshima Island in Sagami Bay.
