Abstract
This paper gives an outline on development of thermosetting polyurethane elastomers, from casting type, known as Adiprene (Du Pont), 4, 4'-Methylene-bis- (o-Chloroaniline) (MOCA) substitutes because of uncertainty surrounding regulation, to RIM type elastomers. The Former is produced by heat-curing TDI/polyether based prepolymer with MOCA according to two component casting process, while the latter is prodfuced from carbodiimide modified MDI, known as Isonate 143 L (Up-john) or low molecular weight glyco modified MDI quasi-prepolymer/polyether chain extender by nearly similar one-shot, two component injection process.
This outline shows us that polyurethane is a material being capable to clear wide range of requirements rom physical properties by selecting each component in formulation and progress has been resulted from technical breakthrough on process and machine equipments.
As to one-component elastomers and polyurethanes for coating, trends of studies are introduced from the point of published patent.
