Abstract
In previous four papers the works of “continental group” (A. Zinke, H. v. Euler and K. Hultzsch) were mainly mentioned. Now we are going to study the English resin chemistry, where the attention to elucidate the structure of resins was directed to the synthesis and characterisation of compounds formed by condensation of phenols with formaldehyde. Therefore, first the works of Lederer, Manasse and Auwers concerning the synthesis of phenolalcohols, second that of Caldwell and Thompson (America), Barclay, Burawoy, Thomson and Chamberlein (England) concerning the characterisation of metheylated phenols and then the works of Megson school; Part V, VII and VIII of the series of “Formaldehyde Condensations with Phenol and its Homologues” are abstracted and discussed.
