Abstract
The phenolic foam offers good properties, fire resistance, low smoke generation, high temperature resistance and good thermal and acoustical insulation property. On the other hand, its disadvantage is brittleness, and it has been limited to specially application.
Recently, phenolic foams are employed for thermal and acoustical insulation materials such as sandwich construction panels in the construction business mainly, and also for a thermal insulation material for the liquid natural gas tank.
The outline of phenolic foam production and some recent developments and applications are mentioned in this review.
